2015 First BETA Managed Graduate Apprentice Who Has Followed SEMTA's Professonal Pathway.

Mrtyn Lyell & David Miller

BETA's Group Training Manager, David Miller, attended Edinburgh Napier Universtity's graduation ceremony, held at the Usher Hall on the 6th July 2015. Here David saw Martyn Lyell, graduate with a Bachelor of Engineering with Honours, in Mechanical Enigneering.

Pictured right is Martyn with his certificate together with BETA's Group training manager David Miller.

Martyn started his apprenticeship back in October 2010 working at Mactaggart Scott Engineering Ltd, Loanhead, Midlothian. It was decided early on that he would follow an Engineering degree course which meant, he would be following the SEMTA Graduate/Professional pathway, BETA's first managed apprentice to do this.

To achieve his Modern Apprentice certificate at this level Martyn still had to achieve his Performing Engineeing Operations SVQ level 2 certificate as part of his first year off the job training. This he did successfully attending Jewel and Esk Valley College now Edinburgh College.

Martyn then enrolled onto his SVQ level 3 in Engineering Technical Support (Engineering Drawing) in this case the pathway chosen was "Producing Engineering Drawings / Models using 3D Computer Aided Techniques". However, before getting in front of the CAD system up in the Design Drawing office Martyn still had to gain knowledge and experience on the shop floor. Thus, Martyn spent almost two years working in the various fitting and assembly areas gaining valuable knowledge and experieince that would help in designing new products for his company in the design drawing office.

Martyn finished his SVQ level 3 successfully on the 10th June 2014 however, he still had a year to go with his honours degree. To-day 7th July 2015 saw Martyn Lyell graduate at the Usher Hall, Edinburgh and now that he has successsfully completed his honours degree he will be shortly receiving his Modern Apprenticeship certificate from SEMTA which will illustrate that he has followed the professional pathway and its requirements.

Well done to Martyn and to his company who has sponsored him through his degree. Below are some photos of the day
